02:41 pm - Opinions needed!!
I am working on a concept for a website. The idea is that it will be for the promotion of GLBT equality, but I want it to include much more than that. Really what I want to do is include resources about what religion (not just Christianity, but religion in general) says.. show what those out there who are against those of are saying (ie Westboro Baptist Church that formed the godhatesfags.com website or the religious right extremists of other denominations).. and I want to offer the opportunity to do things in the GLBT community to help get things done. I'd also like to keep the everyone informed on current events (good and bad), as well as past events of the last few decades (or even further back), to give perspective to the roots of the movement. I'd like to present all the information I have on the psychological perspective on homosexuality and transgenderism. And I'd like to present the information I have on gender studies.

However, I need your help. I need to know what is relevant to you and what you want to see in a website that you don't already see. I want you to tell me what sorts of things you'd like to see done in your community or things you'd like to do to help out, if you had the right opportunity. I want this to be a website about the people who are concerned. So tell me, what do you want see everyone? Give me any and all opinions and perspectives.. good, bad or indifferent. I don't care if you think that it's a stupid idea or a great idea, I want to hear them all. :)

And don't think you have to be gay to reply! I want all perspectives and ideas! Just message me and let me know.. or if you'd prefer, IM me at Rei13wolf or drop me an email at minako13_wolf@yahoo.com.

Take care all and thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I, personally, would like to see a GLBT religious site that also speaks about the BDSM community. There are lots of Christian submission sites that talk about how the woman's supposed to be submissive to the man, etc.; I'd like to see a site that connects BDSM with GLBT *and* religion and isn't gender-specific (i.e., that it's okay for the man to be dominant and the woman submissive, but not the other way around).

I'd also love a site that has some bi-specific resources. I feel like bisexuals are often over-looked: we're neither straight nor gay and yet we are both straight and gay. Polygamy might also be interesting in this respect as well.

Hope this helps.

Wow! Lots of ideas here. I've gotten a few people requesting info on BDSM through other LJ communities (although, you were the first to make the suggestion!). I don't know a whole ton about the subject, but I know a few people who do.. and if you'd like to contribute any information, either resources or your own writing, that'd be wonderful! I'll do some research myself, but my area of expertise is more sociology/psychology/gender studies/religion, etc, and how it relates to the GLBT community. No pressure though, if you aren't up for it, but if you are, that'd be wonderful!

And I very much agree.. it seems to me that the GLBT community is fragmented, and ends up in different groups.. either gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered.. rather than an integrated community working for equality for all.

Polyamory/polygamy will definitely be included, as I know quite a few people personally that this concerns, and I know that it's another thing that is simply not accepted in our society.

Thanks again for all your ideas! I will definitely consider all you've written, and again, if you're interested in helping at all, let me know. :)

Hey there! Just to update you, I've created an LJ community to discuss the site and also for the purpose of people getting to know each other and discuss all the things that the site will one day encompass.

http://community.livejournal.com/unitedweroar/

I hope you'll check it out, as this is the first stage of building a solid community that will found the base of the site. A solid community is the only way to build any sort of support and to truly get the word out on all of the topics that the site will discuss. I hope you'll also join to discuss your experiences and ideas, I would definitely be glad to see you around. :)

Take care!

I'd like to see a site that:

-Gives religious perspectives on GLBT and so on folks, both pro and con (while making clear the site is pro), and links to resources that help to answer anti GLBT arguments
-Stuff on spirituality and BDSM
-Suff on polygamy/polyamourous relationships within different religions or spiritualities
-Connecting queer or gender theory to religous practice
-Reviews of interfaith queer books or resources
-A chat forum or a place where people can submit their own articles and experiences

Thanks for the opportunity to share thoughts!

In peace,
Rob

Hey there! Long time since my last comment. But since then, I've started an LJ community to discuss all the things that the site will encompass, as well as any new ideas people may have for the site itself.

http://community.livejournal.com/unitedweroar/

Especially since you've had so many great ideas, I hope you'll join and add more or even just come to talk about your own experiences. Anywho.. I think you would be a great asset to the community, so I truly hope you'll join. :)

Take care!
